How do you kill dust mites, or at least lower their numbers?
You kill dust mites by starving them to death, freezing them to death, or boiling them to death. When you cut off their food source you get a significant reduction in their numbers. When you steam clean and use very hot water to kill them in the wash they die, but if the environment is not kept pristine they will come back. When freezing them out again they can return. What you want to do is to reduce the amount of hiding places that they frequent. By improving bedding, removing carpets, etc.
